Vivian Bewick (1912-1999) was one of the Buckhurst Hill Community Association's most outstanding and longest-serving tutors. A descendant of Thomas Bewick, the famous 19th century engraver of birds and animals, it was Vivian Bewick who in 1952 designed and carried out a series of murals in Bedford House. Bewick was one of a group of artists who founded Bedford House after the Second World War.
Bewick exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Paris Salon, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, and the Royal Society of British Artists. His work has been collected in the UK and Europe.
