Ken Howard RA

Biography

Ken Howard OBE, RA, was born in England in 1932. He has become one of the most celebrated and respected artists at work today in the UK.

Ken Howard studied at the Royal College of Art from 1955 to 1958, and first exhibited at the New English Art Club in 1959, an institution he was to become President of in 1998.

Accepted as a member of numerous prestigious art societies, including the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Society of British Artists, he was to become a member of the Royal Academy in 1992.

Over the years Ken Howard has won many awards and accolades for his work, including at the John Moores and John Laing Exhibitions. He is arguably best known for his studio paintings. Works which display a highly skilful almost painterly-sketch-like quality, working with the light which streams in through his studio windows.

Public bodies which hold his work include the Guildhall Art Gallery, London, the Imperial War Museum and Army Museums, the City of London Corporation and the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery.

Sadly Ken died in 2022, aged eighty nine, still working towards the end of his life.
