Landscape, installation images - opening Saturday

16th July, 2026

All ready to go

Our latest exhibition, Landscape, is all hung and ready for its official opening on Saturday, 18th at 10am.

Whilst in-flesh viewing can never be replaced or bettered, and we’d love to see as many folks as possible this coming Saturday, we thought we’d share some photographs of the instillation.

Georgian room settings

It’s only when you can see how paintings appear on-wall and in context can you really appreciate the impact within a room setting; we’re very fortunate that at Castlegate House we have just that, wonderful Georgian rooms.

In-studio and plein air painting

The eight new paintings from Stefan Orlowski are fabulous. The two largest works are in-studio creations following numerous location visits, whilst the remaining smaller six works are produced entirely out in the Cumbrian countryside, quite some feat in our often inclement weather, for sure.

Martin Greenland

Martin Greenland’s eight paintings have all the quality of the best of the 18th and 19th century landscape works, but often with a slight contemporary twist. On-wall they’re tremendous, with vibrant blues vying with warm greens; when you stand in front of them, you can see why he won the famous John Moores painting prize.

Where traditional meets contemporary

A majestic landscape

Looking at this, it's quite possible a similar landscape would have adorned the wall 250 years ago for Castlegate House's first occupants, Mr & Mrs Lawton

Sheila Fell (RA)

Finally, Sheila Fell (RA). You really do need to see these in the flesh. To be totally honest we’ve always struggled photographing Miss Fell’s paintings, the complexity of paint layers, the impasto, the subtly of application, photo’s never quite seem to convey why she was and is regarded as one of the major landscape artists of her age. You need to come and see these in the flesh!

Doors open this Saturday

Doors open at 10am this Saturday, with a drinks reception 12-2pm. If it’s very hot outside, call in for the Georgian house summer coolness; if it’s raining, we have a roof, there’s no excuse!

The exhibition will run until Saturday 15th August, everyone is very welcome.
