Craig Simpson – “Our Sanctuary; the familiar and the absurd” exhibition is now LIVE ONLINE.
One of the most naturally talented and inventive contemporary artists that we’ve come across in all of our years, Craig’s figurative oil paintings depict himself, friends, family and acquaintances; often illustrating his somewhat chosen solitary home and artistic life.
With influences from the likes of Stanley Spencer, Craig merges the contemporary with the Modern British (twentieth century); a venn diagram of the two, with Craig’s art presiding within the overlap.
We’ve worked with Craig for nearly three years. He’s one of those talents that when you see it you just know, or at least we saw it and we knew. Thankfully not many people had already seen it, otherwise perhaps some other gallery would be writing similar now.
Craig has worked away in his studio for over eighteen months to produce twenty paintings. The gallery will be fully turned over to these twenty quite exemplary works from doors open on Saturday 17th May to Saturday 7th June. A very informal opening reception will occur on the 17th from 12-2, with Craig in attendance, undoubtedly suitably and predictably of a nervous disposition. Please do come along if you can, no need to have an acquisition-interest, it’s always great to have a bustling pre-covid-like exhibition opening. Folk’s are so used to experiencing everything digitally nowadays, it’s good sometimes to see things through more than just a screen, as good as that may be.
Hope to see many of you on the 17th or during the exhibition.
