Winter Exhibition

24th November, 2023

Contemporary and Modern British

Our Winter Exhibition is now online, with most works to be hung over the course of the next week. This will be an evolving showing, with new works arriving weekly following our travels around the UK, and sold works heading off to new homes.

Amongst others, we’ve acquired works by Percy Kelly, Bill Peascod, Ben Levene (RA), Kate Nicholson and Anthony Whishaw (RA) as well as receiving new paintings from Craig Simpson and Stefan Orlowski.

The Percy Kelly painting of Maryport harbour is truly wonderful. It was a gift from Percy Kelly to the vendor we've acquired it from, as a thank you for taking Joan David, Percy's long-time friend and correspondent, to visit him at his house at Peartree Cottage in Norfolk in September 1992. In the event this was the last time Joan saw Percy before his death in 1993. We also have a rather Ben Nicholson inspired Abstract gouache of a Cornish harbour by Percy,  a real blast of the 1960s.

Stefan Orlowski

Stefan Orlowski is a contemporary British artist with skills and traditions routed in the centuries-past European Renaissance coupled with elements of early to mid 20th century Modern British art (think Stanley Spencer and Lucien Freud). A 2012 Masters graduate of the highly respected (now sadly closed) Wimbledon College of Art, Stefan works painstakingly away in his Ulverston studio, with works emerging often after many months of studio-toil. A very talented gent.

Craig Simpson

Two works also just taken from Craig Simpson’s studio; such is the interest in Craig’s work, there’s not a day or two goes by without us being approached by clients, both old and new, about Craig’s paintings and direction of art-travel. Another (relatively (to us)) young talented contemporary artist we're very proud to show and support.

All for now,

Steve and Christine
