The British Art Fair and latest acquisitions

Once again, we’re excited to be exhibiting many of our latest acquisitions (and more) at the British Art Fair at The Saatchi Gallery, London, from the 25th to the 28th of this month. Whilst there’s traditionally a focus on Modern British (20th century) work, there’s also a year-on-year increase in contemporary art on show, so it’s always a really interesting eighty-plus dealer event. We have complimentary tickets available for anyone who would like to attend, you only need ask and we can send over the registration link.
We’ll have many of our most recent acquisitions on show, including two fabulous works by the late Sheila Fell (RA), including the painting shown here. The Harvestfield dates to 1969 and was acquired from The Stone Gallery in Newcastle at that time and has remained in one private collection since. A fabulous heavy impasto Fell with, perhaps, a wee nod to Constable in there as well. We actually acquired three new Fells for The Saatchi, but one sold whilst typing this, so two it is (unless the remaining works become part of collections in the interim).
Also on show will be this wonderful small yet perfectly formed oil painting by the late Norman Cornish. Snowballing with Church we drove to the East Sussex coast and back to acquire from a private collection, it really is a gem.
This large early abstract from the late Terry Frost will also be exhibited. September 1964 is a commanding 152 cm in height and was exhibited in the 2000 Royal Academy of Arts exhibition, Terry Frost; Six Decades. In truth we’re quite (maybe overly) selective with Terry’s work. His works from the 1960s we feel have much in the way of invention, experimentation and uniqueness, but latter decades we tend to often find a little formulaic. So, we acquire what we really rate, and in this case it was September 1964.
As I type, in addition to the above, we’ll be exhibiting two new large oils by the very talented Craig Simpson (we’ve not yet listed them online), plus works by Stefan Orlowski, Frank Auerbach, Elizabeth Blackadder, Ben Nicholson and Ray Akins, as well as a selection from our more affordable Mid Century Modern Alternatives collection.
Just finally to note that the physical gallery will be closed from 3pm on Friday 19th to Saturday 28th inclusive, to allow preparations and attendance at the British Art Fair, thereafter usual opening hours apply.
Hope to see many of you at The Saatchi.
