A two-week break, more Sheila Fell and other new works

25th June, 2025

A short break and Miss Fell

Firstly, the physical gallery will be closed from this Saturday, 28th June until Saturday 12th July, inclusive; time to recharge our art-batteries. That said, as always, we’re available via website, email, social media, phone, WhatsApp etc., so only the doors to Castlegate will be closed, not those to the digital world of art delights!

We continue to extract wonderful Sheila Fell  paintings from private collections, including Mechi Farm, Cumberland I circa 1973. Shown in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition that year, it’s currently on show at the Cumberland on Canvas exhibition in Sunderland, wending its way back to us later in July. We’re always keen to acquire works by Miss Fell from private collections, so please do talk with us, in confidence, if that’s something you’re considering.

George Rowlett, a floral explosion

As always, we're always striving to bring new work to Castlegate. A painting just acquired from a long-term private collection is this explosion of colour and impasto paint by George Rowlett; the paint is so thick that in places it's probably not long dried (painted in 2002) - a gest, but not far off! An ideal art-accompaniment to hot summer days.

Affordable Mid Century Modern Alternatives

We also continue to discover works for our more affordable Mid Century Modern Alternatives selection; things we come across on our art-travels which are too good to walk by. The latest is this very period watercolour portrait of a young chap by Frank William Carter, circa 1925.

All for now, see you in July
