Lawrence Quigley, Coast to Coast

Coast to Coast

Lawrence Quigley, Coast to Coast is now live online and may be viewed HERE. In addition to the listing online, we also have a sixty-eight page digital catalogue which may also be viewed HERE.

This is the culmination of one artist’s decades-long desire to travel the Coast to Coast walk, made famous by Alfred Wainwright, painting the route over four seasons, from St. Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire. The exhibition charts not just Lawrie’s journey, often camping out for several days as a “base camp” from which to explore and paint, but also his reconnection with nature and landscape and consequently his response to all that surrounded him; that response being shared through paint on board and paper.

From west to east, or east to west

The exhibiton includes paintings produced in fields, on paths, on the cliff-tops and at the edge of lakes, from Cumbria through to North Yorkshire, a route devised by Alfred Wainwright in his 1973 book, A Coast to Coast Walk.

Exhibition catalogue

A limited number of one hundred physical catalogues has been produced. These are large A4 sized sixty-eight page spine-bound affairs, fully illustrated and will be available from the gallery for £16.

The exhibition will be open to view from Saturday 25th February and will run until the 18th March. During this time the gallery will be open an extra day each week, so Wednesday to Saturday inclusive, 10am - 5pm, other times by prior appointment.
