Jake Attree was born in York in 1950, studying at York school of Art from 1966 until 1968, then from 1968 to 1971 Jake attended Liverpool College of Art and subsequently attended The Royal Academy, London, from 1974 until 1977, being awarded the Creswick Landscape Prize, The Landseer Figurative Prize and the Bronze Turner Medal.

Jake is predominantly a figurative painter with his preferred medium being oil, one of his major influences is the Flemish artist Pieter Bruegel (1525-1569)

Jake has had a highly successful career, being highly regarded both critically and commercially, with solo and mixed shows with Messums London, Thackeray Gallery, Cadogan Contemporary, New Grafton gallery and Art Space, London. Jake’s work has toured with the British Arts Council and is held in numerous prestigious private and public collections, including Hartlepool Museums and Heritage Service, Winchester College, Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council, University of Sheffield, Mercer Art Gallery Harrogate.
