Norman Cornish – Behind the Scenes page 167
One of a collection of preparatory sketches from regular visits during the early 1980s to Durham City.
Norman had no particular desire to paint the Cathedral, instead finding much inspiration from other opportunities in the city such as the pedestrian footbridge shown here. This is the main route for pedestrians from Durham Station down to the city centre and one Norman found interesting because of the contrasting shapes at play whilst enabling folks to go about their everyday lives
