Taste Cumbria Saturday plus Ewan McClure
21st September, 2016
It’s all happening in Cockermouth this weekend (OK, “all” is a stretch, but “lots” is fair).
It’s the annual Taste Cumbria event. A huge food festival taking over the centre of town. More artisan stalls than you can shake the proverbial stick at, plus Michelin-star chefs in pop-up restaurants, etc etc.. The event takes place over Saturday and Sunday, and it’s always worth a visit; it seems to get more popular as each year passes. A link to the event details is HERE
The gallery will be open as usual on the Saturday, 10-5. Drop in, say hello and see our fabulous Nichola Theakston sculpture in the flesh, shown HERE. We also have work on show by Grayson Perry (RA), Richard Fitton, Rebecca Swainston, Eileen Cooper (RA) and Sheila Fell (RA).
Also new to the gallery are a number of paintings by Ewan McClure. We spoke about Ewan earlier in the year, and introduced his painting, Interlude, to the gallery. Ewan has had huge critical success at both the BP and Sky Portrait Awards, showing at the National Portrait Gallery, and we’re thrilled to bring new work to Castlegate from him, HERE The previously mentioned work, Interlude, sold, but we have its large brother, Interlude 1, at 5 x 6 feet in size! You really should see it (assuming we can get it back down stairs to position in the gallery!). You should also see Counterpoints in the flesh; remarkable
Finally, early in November we’ll be launching our second show from Alex Hain and Jess Pigott. You’ll recall in 2015 we held a joint show for them, with Jess coming straight out of art school. Well, next week I travel to Selkirk and then Bath to collect their work; very much looking forward to it. More of this in the coming weeks.
All for now, hopefully see some of you on Saturday.
