Percy, Norman, Chris and Grayson
27th July, 2015
Morning all. Actually, I’m writing this at approx. 11pm in the US, with the temperature still in the high 20s (80 degrees plus in “old money”), so not so sure “morning” is all that accurate, but heck, here goes.
Firstly, a few new additions. Two more works by Percy Kelly have come our way. Both sold in the Messums, London exhibition in 2012 and now ready for new ownership. One of Newlyn Boatyard and the other a small work of Parton looking towards Whitehaven. All available Percy Kelly works can be seen here http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/paintings-for-sale/percy-kelly/
Secondly, we’ve obtained an excellent mid-sized drawing by the late Norman Cornish. That and others may be seen here http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/paintings-for-sale/norman-cornish/ Norman’s work has taken off at auction in recent months, with even small works often reaching towards or into five figures. We’re watching this closely, as it appears the market may well be moving upward in short order, now that Norman is sadly no longer with us. We’ve held off following this lead at present, we shall see where this takes us in the coming months.
Next, in mid September, we will be staging an exhibition of new works by Chris Rigby. We went to see Chris at his Lancashire/Cumbria border studio recently and were astounded by what we saw. We’ve placed photos of three of his latest works for the exhibition on our website here (the first three shown) http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/paintings-for-sale/chris-rigby/ These works look great in the photos, but in the flesh they’re astounding. The exhibition will showcase approximately 30 new works from Chris.
Don’t forget, our summer exhibition continues, an ever-changing mix of work from a wide range of artists, both painting and pottery being of equal focus. http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/exhibitions/summer-selection/ Within we have the only ceramic work available on the market today by Grayson Perry. We’ve had some amazing reaction to this over the last two weeks, with a bit of a stir being created on some Social Media forums. It’s truly worth coming to see, a real piece of art in pottery form from one of Britain’s best known and respected artists at work today http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/pottery-for-sale/grayson-perry-ra/another-motion-in-the-craft-versus-art-debate/
Finally, the gallery will be closed week commencing 3rd August, reopening on Saturday 8th. So, that week we will not be open Monday through to Friday, inclusive. We will, however, be available by email and telephone, as always.
All for now,
Steve and Christine
