Own Art, New Work and Sundays

Well, it's official. We're immensely pleased to confirm that with effect from today, Castlegate is part of the Arts Council of England "Own Art" scheme. This is designed to promote and support living artists through offering funding from £100 - £2,000 to help with the purchase of any work of art in the gallery (not just paintings). The funding can be used to buy one or more items outright, or as a contribution towards a higher priced item, and is repaid over ten months at 0% interest ! Just ask at the gallery.
We've also started to receive new work for 2013 from a number of our artists. http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/new-work/. The latest are six really wonderful paintings by Helen Glassford. An ethereal abstract take on land and sea-scapes, the colours and execution are superb. Hung now in the gallery, they look splendid. Also just acquired are two limited numbered screen prints by Barbara Rae (RA). Purchased from the gallery almost fifteen years ago, they have a wonderful balance of colour. We're always happy to actively consider the purchase of paintings from clients; it makes life interesting !
Our Winter exhibition has so far seen a large number of sales by many artists at all levels. The exhibition is ever-changing, and new work replaces that sold on a daily basis. We've seen works by the likes of Sheila Fell, Mary Fedden, Norman Cornish, Percy Kelly and Ken Howard go to new homes, along with many many works by our gallery artists.
Two notes for the diary. Saturday 2nd February will see live demonstrations by Iain Hodgkinson of the skills of a printmaker, whilst Friday 1st March will see the start of the exhibition, "Bill Bell - A Different Cumbria" (preview the evening before). Further details of both closer to the time.
Finally, as Winter is now in full swing, it has become apparent that Sundays are, shall we say, quiet. So, until Easter, the gallery will be open daily 10 - 5, but only open by appointment on Sundays and Tuesdays. Hopefully five days a week will work for most, but if anyone ever wishes to call in on a Tuesday or Sunday, just let us know and we'll be there. We're always open via email or mobile, whatever hour (as someone in Australia recently tested out !).
All for now, Steve and Christine
