New Work and a Sheila Fell exhibition

13th October, 2021

With the doors closing to our Norman Cornish exhibition, the gallery is now fully rehung with myriad of artist’s works. Included in those on display are eight new paintings by Selkirk’s finest, Alex Hain, all of which may be seen here.

Also recently acquired is a quite wonderful painting by the late Theodore Major, titled Crucifixion in Wigan, it’s a powerful example of such genre by Theo. The painting may be seen here.

Also acquired are works by Tom McGuinness and June Bennett, to name just a few. Click here to see all new works recently acquired.

Sheila Fell (RA) - Exhibition news

We’ve also been rather busy acquiring works by the late and great Sheila Fell (RA). Due in no small part to Sheila’s tragic death in 1979 at the age of just forty eight, her works are relatively few and seldom appear on the market. As an indication, we held an exhibition in 2014 of just eighteen paintings which was still even at that level the largest selling exhibition of her works since before her death.

In the last few weeks we’ve managed to discover six works which will be available to acquire and six further works on loan from private collections. All twelve will be exhibited in-gallery from the 30th October until 20th November; all will be listed online in the week prior to the 30th.

Of the six available works, five have been acquired from a London collection with most unseen for between thirty and sixty years. Works include oil paintings, charcoal drawings and pastels.

We’re thrilled to be in a position to stage such a show and hope many of you will be able to find your way to the gallery during the three weeks it’s on. More details to follow in the next couple of weeks.
