Ian Norris, in the Open
8th May, 2013
We're thrilled to be exhibiting the new works of Ian Norris, a truly talented northern artist. http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/exhibition-details.php?EID=29 The exhibition largely documents his journey around West Cumbria and previews 6-8pm Thursday 16th May, and will run until 15th June. Ian is a successful award-winning artist and a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts.
We first met Ian last year. We loved his work from the off. He paints in the open, at the scene. There's no settling for the comfort of the studio for Ian. What you get is an impression of the reaction Ian had to an area, not just a representation of the place itself. At times, his use of paint is almost sculptural. He works quickly and will return to a location to work on paintings several times over. Take a look at the video we've produced and you'll see what we mean. His bravery to paint on the beach of St Bees in January, at sub zero temperatures, deserves applause in itself. http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/videos/castlegate-house-presents-painter-ian-norris/
Works in the exhibition are now available to be reserved and are priced from £590 to £3,400, with all able to be taken home during the course of the exhibition. Works will be hung in the gallery for the evening of next Thursday, but will be available to view on request prior to that. The Arts Council OwnArt scheme can also be used to help make a purchase, if required.
Please do join us and Ian on the Thursday evening (16th) 6-8 pm for drinks and nibbles.
We've also been active in acquiring many new works to bring to the gallery over the last few weeks. Many can be seen on the New Work section http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/new-work/ These include great examples from the likes of Mary Fedden, John Thompson, Theodore Major, Barbara Rae and Ken Longcake, amongst many others.
All for now, hope to see you soon.
