Ian Norris - A Midsummer Night's Dream

13th June, 2016

Eighteen months in the making, over six years in the planning, and here it is, an exhibition of thirty new paintings and drawings of and inspired by the Shakespeare masterpiece, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. You may see the full website listing HERE with prices, dimensions and also an additional photo’ for each work, showing it in-frame, to help deliberations.

As mentioned above, this has long been something that Ian has wanted to do, the genesis actually being back at Art School. It’s coincidental that the exhibition has occurred during the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare, but a happy coincidence at that (although maybe not so happy for William, arguably).

This is the third solo show we’ve staged for Ian since his first introduction to the gallery in early 2013. We’re thrilled to be continuing to work with him and bringing his very individual paintings and drawings to a Castlegate audience. For those of you new to Ian, we produced a video of him back in 2013, which may be viewed HERE.

All works are available to reserve now, and don’t forget, the Arts Council Own Art scheme maybe used to purchase any work up to £2,500, with the Own Art Plus scheme now available for anything above £2,500; both free of interest over ten months.

Finally, the doors will open to the exhibition on Saturday 25th June. Gallery open 10-4, with a reception, as usual, from 12-2, with Ian in attendance. Please make a diary note, we believe there’s a music and poetry multi-pop-up event taking place in Cockermouth that weekend also, so lots to while away the afternoon. The exhibition will run until July 16th.

All for now,

Steve and Christine
A quick ps.. Eileen Cooper, RA and Keeper of the Royal Academy, who we announced a couple of weeks ago would be working with us going forward, was honoured with an OBE this weekend. We're thrilled for her, congratulations, Eileen.
