Alan Stones and Rebecca Payn
27th June, 2013
We're very proud to be exhibiting two new bodies of work by the acclaimed artists Alan Stones and Rebecca Payn. http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/exhibition-details.php?EID=28 We have over sixty wonderful works between them, with a video available to watch http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/videos/castlegate-house-gallery-presents-alan-stones-and-rebecca-payn/
Alan and Rebecca live and work together at their home near Penrith. Both have a long and successful track record of exhibitions, both within the UK and internationally, including the Royal Academy, Mall Galleries, London, Abbot Hall, Kendal and Tullie House, Carlisle, with many prestigious public museums and art galleries holding their work.
Alan trained at St. Martins, London, whilst Rebecca developed through studying at the Cumbrian College of Art, and subsequently studying Fine Art in Florence. Their respective use of paint is very different, but their skills are equally matched. Rebecca subtly conveys the world around her, from landscapes to wonderfully painted scenes of domestic life. Alan always avoids the sentimental, producing work that is often thought provoking and in which new elements seem to come forth each time a painting is viewed.
The exhibition runs from Friday 5th to Saturday 27th July. The preview evening is from 6-8 pm on Thursday 4th July. Please do come along, see the works hung, meet Alan and Rebecca and enjoy some free wine and nibbles (that's always the clincher!).
All works are available from now and may be collected during the exhibition, if desired. The Arts Council OwnArt scheme may also be used for any purchase.
Finally, away from Alan and Rebecca, we've acquired a rather splendid large Percy Kelly charcoal drawing of Cockermouth. About to return from being re-framed, watch the New Work section of the web site over the coming two days or so http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/new-work/ We've very recently added works by Barbara Rae and William Selby also.
Finally finally (honest), on the 20th July we'll be celebrating our first anniversary at Castlegate. It's a Saturday and we'll have live music, food/drink etc... Invitations to follow, but make an early note. It would be great to see you all there.
All for now, hope to see you during the exhibition,
Steve and Christine
