A whole host of news

A Happy New Year to one and all. As we head towards the start of our fourth year at Castlegate, we have a whole host of news to report. So, here goes...

Firstly, as well as our continuing ever-changing Winter Exhibition http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/exhibition-details.php?EID=52 we've been busy acquiring additional new works to the gallery. To start with, a major name in 20th C and contemporary art, John Bellany (RA CBE), who died in 2012. We've tracked down three large wonderfully vibrant paintings, shown here http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/paintings-for-sale/john-bellany-ra-cbe/ John was a colourful character and his biography can be read on the above link.

New art also from Joe Morris. We brought a number of his highly unique and skilfully carved Tadelakt Plaster artworks last year, and we follow this success with a number of new examples http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/paintings-for-sale/joe-morris/ Joe is joined in the new-work stakes by a wonderfully intriguing series of small paintings by Chris Rigby. Depicting the domestic; the series is titled Residence http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/paintings-for-sale/chris-rigby/

We're also excited to be bringing two wonderful and rare works by the lauded Joan Eardley and a highly important painting by Duncan Grant. These, amongst others, to follow in the next few weeks.

Also, for all Bill Bell fans, due to a change in circumstances, we've been asked to find a new home for one of the most commented on works from our retrospective exhibition in 2013. The Old Works, Parton, was purchased from that exhibition and can be seen here and is available now http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/paintings-for-sale/bill-bell/the-old-works-parton/ So here's your second chance!

Next, looking forward to the coming year, we'll be staging our New Talent exhibition, featuring Jess Pigott and Alex Hain, over the Easter period. We're all hugely excited about this, and Jess' latest blog can be seen here http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/blogs/jess-blog/intensely-painting/ Following on from that, into the early Summer, we'll be staging a mixed exhibition, titled A Day in the Life; art depicting the differing aspects and interpretations of daily life. It will feature new works from a wide range of our gallery artists plus names such as Sheila Fell and Norman Cornish. Later in the year, Chris Rigby will be followed by Donald Wilkinson; full details to be provided as the year progresses.

Next, we're slightly amending our physical gallery hours for the next few winter weeks. The gallery is always open by email or phone (7 days), but until the end of February, in addition to Tuesdays and Sundays being "open by appointment only", Wednesday will be added to that list, so physically open Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. If that's not clear, see this link http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/contact/

Finally, for anyone seeking painting restoration services, the gallery is able to arrange this for clients with our restorer, just ask for further details.

All for now, hope to see you all soon,
Steve and Christine
