Lots to talk about, so here goes:

We’ve been very busy at the gallery recently. We’ve brought two original mixed media paintings by Barbara Rae (RA) into the gallery, shown first in the list here http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/paintings-for-sale/barbara-rae-ra/  Anyone who knows Barbara’s work will know just how rare original examples of her paintings are. In addition, we’ve acquired back two wonderful works from our sell-out 2013 Bill Bell retrospective (due to downsizing issues). One is of the last days within Solway Colliery, Workington, and the other of the Gorbals in Glasgow from the early 1970s. The former was used as the front cover of the exhibition catalogue; we could have sold it last year several times over, so be quick http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/paintings-for-sale/bill-bell/

Regular readers of our emails, and those who follow us on Facebook and Twitter, will know of the astounding talent we discovered, namely one Jessica Pigott. We have a blog which Jess updates, the latest update happening in the last few days http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/blogs/jess-blog/a-new-studio-and-a-gallery-visit/  The first three paintings we brought to the gallery a few weeks ago sold within two hours. I drove to see Jess on Friday and collected two more paintings by her. Here they are, shown first http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/paintings-for-sale/jessica-pigott/  The huge diptych is one of the most amazing paintings we’ve see in a very very long time. Just astounding. These will likely be the last paintings from Jess until her catalogued exhibition, along with another incredible new talent, Alex Hain, next Easter. Be quick, Jess is going places.

Next weekend, 27/28th September, is the amazing Taste Cumbria festival in Cockermouth. This is a major event with in excess of 30,000 attending over the weekend. There are a wonderful huge array of artisan bakers, butchers, specialist food producers etc... Plus nationally recognised chefs doing all manner of demonstrations! http://www.tastecumbria.com/festival/cockermouth-food-festival/ So, you can come into town, experience all of the food and drink joys, and then call into the gallery, for more drinks and nibbles, and take in the final weekend of the splendid Helen Tabor / Malcolm Croft exhibition http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/exhibition-details.php?EID=42  Lots already sold, but some crackers remain.

Finally, something people may find useful. We have countless weekly conversations with clients about investing in art. So, we recently penned an article for Cumbria Life on that very subject. You can find a copy here. http://www.castlegatehouse.co.uk/workspace/pdfs/45investinginart.pdf  Worth a read through if this is something you’ve been considering; you really don’t need deep pockets to think about this.

All for now, hope to see you soon,

Steve and Christine
