A gallery reopening and new work

12th June, 2020

A gallery reopening

We're pleased to announce that the gallery-physical will reopen at 10am on Thursday 18th June. Initially the gallery will be open Thursday to Saturday inclusive and all other times by appointment. As many of you will know, we're always available outside of these times (and inside of them) by phone, email and social media.

On show will be a collection of works including our Draw at Castlegate exhibition selection, including works by Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff, Ben Johnson, Ian Norris and Sarah Bellwood. Other new works have also been obtained.. read on....

Alice Campbell - new work

We've just obtained five new paintings by the hugely talented young artist, Alice Campbell, working away in Edinburgh. Alice's work may be seen HERE. Alice graduated from the prestigious Duncan of Jordanstone Art School in Dundee in 2017 and continues to go from strength to strength.

Additional new work including Ken Howard and Samuel Peploe

Additionally, we've acquired several new-to-the-gallery paintings from the 20th century, including a wonderful 1962 work by Ken Howard (RA) and an equally fabulous painting of the Isle of Iona by the great Samuel Peploe, one of the lauded four Scottish Colourists. Importantly, the reverse of the painting depicts the artist's two sons, making it a really unique work by one of the foremost Scottish artists of the last century. All new work may be seen HERE

Gallery arrangements and plans

Clearly at this time how we operate the gallery is of the utmost importance. We're lucky in that the layout of Castlegate House, with its large entrance hall and three principal rooms, allows sufficient room to exercise social distancing. However, for the foreseeable future we'll be limiting the gallery to no more than four visitors at any one time, with government recommended social distancing measures required. A plethora of hand sanitiser will also be on hand (pardon the pun).

As we look forward to the rest of 2020, we have many plans, including The Castlegate Prize award and exhibition, a solo show for the very talented Ian Norris and a London-based exhibition of works by Alex Hain, Alice Campbell, Louis Appleby and William Reinsch; how this all pans out over the coming months is, of course, open to change, but we remain ready to adapt to whatever changes we need to make and to continue to work with you all and our partner artists.

All for now, hope to see and hear from many of you in the near future.
