bill peascod was born in 1920 in Maryport and followed his father down the mine. He became a well known climber - laying down many of the climbing routes in the Lake district. He emigrated to Australia in the 50s and filled the gap left by climbing with painting. His work is in all the leading National galleries in Australia and he won many awards. He returned to Cumbria on his retirement in 1981 with his japanese wife and small daughter to settle on the slopes of Skiddaw where he took up climbing again and painted from his milking parlour studio. He died tragically in 1986 while climbimg in Wales with Don Whillans. |
